Gender Analysis & Workshops Organization

Central America

NASA SERVIR & USAID

Our team led efforts to improve diversity and inclusion in the geospatial field for the SERVIR Global program as we prepared for a potential hub in Central America. We organized two major events:

  • In Belize, we held a workshop called "Detection of Deforestation and Forest Degradation Using Earth Observation Time Series Data," where we taught participants how to use advanced tools to monitor environmental changes.

  • We hosted the "Geospatial Youth (Jóvenes Geoespaciales)" workshop in El Salvador with the Central American Aerospace Network at Gerardo Barrios University. Forty-five students, aged 15-17, from USAID-funded youth programs created projects using NASA Earth data to solve environmental problems in their communities.

We also conducted gender research and analysis with stakeholders in Central America. This research focused on how gender norms affect women’s and other vulnerable groups’ access to land information and explored organizational structures and priorities.

These efforts were key in making geospatial tools and information more inclusive and accessible in Central America, ensuring everyone’s voices are heard and considered.
